Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed Assumes the Duties of Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Honours Hissein Brahim Taha in Jeddah - OIC News

The handover ceremony for the duties of Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) took place on Thursday, 28 August 2026, between His Excellency Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha and His Excellency Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, following the latter’s election as the new Secretary-General during the extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers held earlier in the day.

During the ceremony, the most prominent political, developmental, and organizational issues on the OIC’s agenda were reviewed, and views were exchanged on strengthening the joint Islamic action process to serve the issues of the Islamic Ummah and enhance security and stability in the region.

Affirming Commitment to Continuing the Journey: 

His Excellency the new Secretary-General, Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, expressed his pride in the trust placed in him by the Council of Foreign Ministers, affirming his commitment to working to develop the performance of the General Secretariat and deepen solidarity among member states to confront current challenges.

In a gesture of appreciation, the new Secretary-General presented a commemorative shield to His Excellency Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, in recognition of his significant efforts and distinguished contributions during his tenure in serving the interests of Muslims and supporting their just causes.

For his part, Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha congratulated the new Secretary-General, expressing his best wishes for success in his new leadership role and for the continued progress and prosperity of the organization.

The ceremony was attended by several Assistant Secretaries-General and senior officials of the General Secretariat, as well as His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Chad to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. – OIC News
