Kalapara storm-affected families receive government assistance

CI sheet being distributed to victims of the latest Kalboishakhi storm in Kalapara.



Patuakhali: The upazila administration has provided two bundles of corrugated tin and a 14.5 kg family packet of food assistance to 15 families whose houses were destroyed in the Boishakhi storm in Kalapara, Patuakhali, and one bundle of corrugated tin and two packets of food assistance for the repair of the collapsed madrasa in Chakamiya.

On Wednesday afternoon, Upazila Executive Officer Kausar Hamid, in collaboration with the Upazila Project Implementation Officer's office, distributed this food assistance and corrugated tin to the affected families. Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Mokchedul Alam, Assistant Director of Cyclone Preparedness Program Md. Asaduzzaman Khan, LGED Engineer Md. Moniruzzaman, Upazila Agricultural Extension Officer Md. Nahidul Islam were present at the time.

Project Implementation Officer Mokchedul Alam said that government assistance will be provided to all families affected by the storm in Kalapara in phases.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, torrential rain and stormy winds continued on the Kalapara coast of Patuakhali. Due to this, public life has been disrupted. 114 millimeters of rainfall has been recorded in Kalapara in the last 24 hours.

The Bay of Bengal adjacent to Kuakata is still turbulent as the local warning signal number three is in effect at the Payra sea port. However, there is no fear of accidents as fishing in the fishing ban.

Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, many houses were damaged by the Kalbaisakhi storm in some villages of Salimpur, Nawabpur of Nilgonj Union, Dalbuganj Union and Baliatoli Union  of the upazila.
