The Bangladesh government has announced a seasonal fishing ban in the Bay of Bengal and its riverine water bodies to protect marine biodiversity, ensure safe breeding, and sustain fish stocks.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, fishing by any vessel will be prohibited from April 15 to June 11. This annual ban is designed to support the reproduction and conservation of marine species, particularly the Hilsa fish, which is vital to the country’s ecosystem and economy.

While the ban plays a crucial role in marine conservation, it also presents economic challenges for coastal fishing communities that rely heavily on the fishing industry for their livelihoods.
