Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today brought back 24 Bangladeshi fishermen who had been detained by Myanmar’s Arakan Army after inadvertently crossing into Myanmar’s territorial waters while fishing in the Bay of Bengal.

A BGB delegation received the 24 fishermen from the Arakan Army at the Zero Line of the Naf River and brought them to the Teknaf Jetty today, said a BGB press release today.

In coordination with the local administration, law enforcement agencies are now verifying the identities of the fishermen to hand over them to their families.

According to the BGB, the fishermen were detained by the Arakan Army at different times of in 2025 and 2026, reports BSS.

The BGB had been maintaining communication and coordination with relevant authorities, making it possible for their safe return, the BGB release added.
