Uttara Residential Fire Death Toll Rises to Six

The death toll from a fire at a residential building in Uttara rose to six on Friday, according to police.

Three of the victims were members of the same family, said Sub-Inspector Nazmul Sakib of Uttara West Police Station. The deceased were identified as Rodela, 14; Md Rashed, aged two months and five days; Raha, 17; Harez, 52; Fazle Rabbi Rizvi, 38; and Afsana.

The fire broke out around 7:50am on the second floor of a seven-storey building on Road No. 18 in Sector 11 of Uttara.

Two firefighting units rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control by 8:25am, said Talha Bin Zasim, station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters’ media cell.

At least 10 people were injured in the incident and are receiving treatment at several hospitals in Uttara, including Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital.

The cause of the fire could not be determined immediately and remains under investigation.
