25 shops gutted, 20 burnt in Chandpur

Twenty-five shops were gutted in a fire in a market in Haimchar upazila of Chandpur on Monday night.


Some 20 people were injured while they were trying to douse the flame, said local traders.

Ratan Sheikh, station officer of Haimchar Fire Service, said the fire began at a shop the  market in front of KVN High School around 12:00am.

Being informed a firefighting unit from the station rushed to the spot and brought the flame after one hour of efforts, he said.

He said the origin of the fire could not be known yet.

Trader Omar Faruk, whose grocery shop was also gutted, claimed that valuables worth around Tk 3 crore were gutted in the fire in 25 shops, reports UNB.
