Multiple explosions were heard on Iran’s strategically important Qeshm Island in the south of the country early Tuesday, while explosions were also reported in the coastal city of Bandar Lengeh.

Reports citing US officials said the United States had carried out another attack on Qeshm Island. However, the cause of the explosions, any casualties or damage, and a direct link to US military action had not been independently confirmed.

Iranian media reported that five explosions were heard on Qeshm Island. The semi-official Fars news agency said explosions were heard from the direction of the sea near Bandar Lengeh.

The reports emerged as US President Donald Trump indicated that the prospect of another major military confrontation with Iran was low. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump said the United States had fought a war with Iran and won, while also stating that there had been no fighting for several months.

However, US officials reportedly said that American forces had continued conducting limited strikes against targets in Iran for several weeks. They said the operations were intended to protect commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and prevent Iran from developing the capability to attack vessels.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said communications with the United States were continuing through intermediaries. Diplomatic contacts between the two countries were reportedly taking place with Qatar acting as a mediator.

The United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28 this year, prompting retaliatory strikes by Tehran. The two sides agreed to a ceasefire in April, but tensions have persisted over security and maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
