The government is actively promoting the production of wooden products as a sustainable alternative to single-use plastics, according to Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Water Resources.

During a discussion with officials and employees of the Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC) in Chattogram, Rizwana outlined the government's efforts to manufacture eco-friendly wooden products using advanced, sustainable technology. The BFIDC, under the Ministry of Environment, is spearheading these initiatives to reduce reliance on harmful plastics.

Rizwana emphasized the importance of improving expertise in sustainable wood production and processing to ensure the optimal use of forest resources. "We must prioritize research to develop sustainable management practices, as the responsible use of renewable resources will be key to shaping the future of the forest industry," she stated.

BFIDC Chairman Md Nasir Uddin, Chattogram Regional Forest Conservator Molla Rezaul Karim, Bangladesh Forest Academy Director Md Aminul Islam, BFIDC General Manager Jahan Ara, Chattogram Rubber Division General Manager AM Shahjahan Sarker, and other officials attended the meeting. They discussed the challenges and opportunities within the forest industry, underscoring the need for continued government policy support and sharing their thoughts on future initiatives.

Earlier, Rizwana visited the BFIDC industrial unit at Kalurghat in Chattogram. She also toured the Forest Academy, where she instructed authorities to ensure that forest officials receive up-to-date training to better support the sector's growth and sustainability.
