Govt to Prioritize Research for Environ Protection
Says Environment Adviser
Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced on Tuesday that the government will focus on advancing research and the application of technology for the conservation of forests and the environment.
Speaking as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting with officials and employees of the Bangladesh Forest Research Institute (BFRI) in Chattogram, she emphasized the critical role of scientific research and technology in addressing climate change and safeguarding natural resources.
“The effective use of research and technology is key to combating climate change and protecting the environment,” said Rizwana Hasan.
She underscored the importance of modern research in safeguarding forest resources and promoting sustainable management. The adviser called for expanding research efforts to achieve better outcomes in forest conservation and management.
Rizwana Hasan also addressed the need for innovations to tackle climate change challenges. She urged for research into the impact of social forestry on natural forests and stressed the importance of further studies on biodiversity conservation and wildlife management.
The government also aims to enhance the utilization of non-timber forest resources like bamboo, cane, and medicinal plants. She directed initiatives to improve mangrove forest production and optimize the use of coastal land.
The event was presided over by BFRI Director AKM Showkat Alam Mazumder, with notable attendees including Molla Rezaul Karim, Conservator of Forests for the Chattogram Region, and Md. Aminul Islam, Director of the Bangladesh Forest Academy, alongside BFRI officials and staff.
