Bangladesh has sought additional energy assistance from India amid concerns over supply disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The request was conveyed through a formal letter from the government of Bangladesh, which was received by Pranay Verma.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting with Iqbal Hassan Mahmood at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Verma confirmed the development.

“We have received a formal letter from the Bangladesh government requesting additional assistance. I will forward it to the relevant authorities in India for prompt consideration,” he said.

Verma noted that cooperation in the power and energy sectors remains one of the key pillars of economic ties between the two neighbouring countries.

He added that cross-border electricity transmission lines and energy pipelines between Bangladesh and India are already operational, and both sides discussed ways to further strengthen collaboration in these areas.
