The Election Commission on Sunday withdrew its earlier restriction on carrying mobile phones within 400 yards of polling centres on election day.

Speaking to reporters at the EC headquarters in Agargaon, Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said voters will be allowed to enter polling centres with mobile phones. Candidates and their polling agents will also be permitted to carry mobile phones inside the centres.

He said candidates and their agents may take photographs inside polling centres if necessary. However, taking photographs inside the secret ballot booths will remain strictly prohibited.

The EC official said the restriction aims to protect the secrecy of the vote while ensuring a smooth and transparent polling process.
