Inflation falls to 8.29% in August, lowest in over 3 years

The country’s overall inflation eased to 8.29 percent in August, down from 8.55 percent in July, marking the lowest level in more than three years, according to data released Sunday by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

The last time inflation stood lower was in July 2022 when it was recorded at 7.48 percent.

Since then, inflation has consistently remained above 8 percent, straining household budgets.

The BBS figures show that food inflation in August inched up to 7.60 percent from 7.56 percent in July while non-food inflation fell to 8.90 percent from 9.38 percent the previous month.

For the 2024–25 fiscal year, average inflation stood at 10.03 percent.

Officials said the recent decline in overall inflation was largely driven by easing non-food inflation.

Inflation in both rural and urban areas also recorded slight decreases during the same period. - UNB
