Inflation Dips to 8.29% in August, Lowest in 3 Years
Bangladesh’s overall inflation eased to 8.29 percent in August, down from 8.55 percent in July, reaching its lowest level in more than three years, according to official data released Sunday.
The last time inflation fell below this mark was in July 2022, when it stood at 7.48 percent. Since then, it has consistently remained above 8 percent, putting pressure on household budgets.
Figures from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) show food inflation inched up to 7.60 percent in August from 7.56 percent in July, while non-food inflation declined to 8.90 percent from 9.38 percent.
For the 2024–25 fiscal year, average inflation stood at 10.03 percent.
Officials said the recent decline was mainly driven by easing non-food inflation. Inflation in both rural and urban areas also recorded slight decreases during the same period.
