Economic activities will continue throughout the Eid-ul-Adha holidays, Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed confirmed today (4 June).
“There’s no room for stagnation. Businesses will operate as usual. Bangladesh Bank has already announced which days banks will remain open, including arrangements for sacrificial cattle markets,” the adviser said, responding to questions after a meeting of the Advisory Committees on government purchases and economic affairs at the Secretariat.
Eid-ul-Adha will be observed nationwide on 7 June. Initially, public holidays were declared for 5-6 June and 8-10 June, totaling six days. Later, 11 and 12 June were added by executive order, followed by the weekend of 13-14 June, granting government employees a 10-day break from 5 to 14 June.
Addressing concerns about the extended holiday, Salehuddin noted that other countries have even longer breaks. “For example, Christmas holidays last 20 to 25 days. In Nepal, Durga Puja holidays extend to 30 days. The country will keep functioning,” he said.
He confirmed that the government’s budget has been presented and implementation will proceed as planned.
The adviser also mentioned that feedback on the proposed 2025-26 budget will be welcomed after Eid. “Opinions can be submitted until 19 June. The cabinet will meet to approve the budget on 22 June,” he added.
