The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has agreed to combine the fourth and fifth disbursements of its $4.7 billion loan to Bangladesh. The disbursement, totaling $2.4 billion, will be made in June, following the completion of a review scheduled for April and approval by the IMF Board in June 2025.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh has already received $2.3 billion in three installments of the loan, which was approved in 2023. These funds are disbursed based on the country's progress in meeting mutually agreed conditions with the IMF to strengthen its economic foundation.

The release noted that some of the conditions tied to budget support programs take time to implement. As a result, the IMF and Bangladesh mutually agreed to combine the fourth and fifth disbursements, originally scheduled for FY2024-25.
