Move to declare Mahipur police station as an upazila creates a festive mood

Patuakhali Correspondent: The news of preparations to declare Mahipur Thana in Patuakhali as an administrative upazila is now creating a festive atmosphere among the common people of the Kuakata coast.

According to information sources, local MP ABM Mosharraf Hossain MP had promised to declare Mahipur as an upazila in his election campaign. After the election, on June 5, the local MP requested the Prime Minister to declare Mahipur police station as an administrative upazila. In view of that request, on June 7, a letter signed by the Prime Minister's Assignment Officer-1 Md. Mohiuddin Al Helal instructed to take necessary administrative measures in this regard and send a report for the speedy disposal of the related activities. As a result, the administrative Mahipur upazila is going to be formed from four unions and one municipality of Kalapara upazila.

Incidentally, Mahipur is an important town in the southern region. Since the establishment of the police station in 2016, the administrative, economic and commercial importance of the area has increased. It has one of the largest fishing ports in the country, various government and private offices, banks, insurance, factories, educational and health institutions and the second largest submarine cable landing station in the country. In addition, the Kuakata tourism center is in the Mahipur police station area. 

Mahipur Thana is an administrative police station under Kalapara Upazila of Patuakhali District. It was officially established on 29 February 2016. It is mainly engaged in maintaining law and order in the Kuakata tourist area and adjacent unions located in the southern part of Kalapara Upazila.

Mahipur Thana BNP General Secretary Advocate  Shahjahan Parvez said, "It is the eternal promise of our National Parliament Member ABM Mosharraf Hossain MP to implement Mahipur Thana in the upazila. The people voted for us that way. Kalapara Upazila is 18 km away from Mahipur. Therefore, it is very important to implement Mahipur in the upazila in the public interest of all the unions and municipalities of Mahipur Thana."
