Bangladesh has recorded 295 dengue-related deaths so far this year, including 50 in October, as the mosquito-borne disease continues to spread across the country.

One person died of dengue in the 24 hours to 8am on Friday, while 1,300 new patients were admitted to hospitals nationwide during the same period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest figures bring the total number of dengue cases reported this year to 95,451.

The person who died in the past 24 hours was a resident of the Khulna division, according to the DGHS report.

A total of 89,380 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals so far this year, including 1,172 in the past 24 hours.

September recorded the highest monthly death toll so far, with 148 fatalities. Dengue claimed 43 lives in August, 36 in July and 13 in June. One death was reported in May, while January and February each recorded two deaths, according to the health authorities.

The latest figures highlight the continuing public health burden of dengue as infections and hospital admissions remain a concern across Bangladesh.
