
Sumaiya Akter, 12, a resident of Mayor Goli under Sholokbbahar ward, was killed when a chunk of mud collapsed on a house at the foot of a hill around 1 pm, leaving her trapped.
Sub-Inspector Riazul Saleheen of Panchlaish Police Station said six houses were built at the base of the hill in Muktijoddha Colony and earth from the hill collapsed onto two of the houses.
A team of Chattogram Fire Service and local people carried out a rescue operation and recscued the girl.
She was taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
In another incident, Ashraful Islam Tanvir, a 10-month-old boy of Mohin Uddin in Bagan Bari area, died when a big chunk of mud collapsed on a makeshift house in Jangal Salimpur area of Sitakunda upazila around 10:00 am.
Md Junayet Kawsar, Additional Superintendent of Police said the earthen house was located beside a hill and was crushed when part of the slope gave way due to the heavy rainfall.
On Tuesday, Shafiqul Islam, was killed in a landslide in the Panchlaish area of Chattogram city, reports UNB.
