Student killed in lightning strike in Lalmonirhat

A fourth-grade madrasha student was killed after being struck by lightning in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon.


The deceased was identified as Sharifa Akter, 10, daughter of Shahidul Islam of the Teesta Bus Stand area under Gokunda Union.

According to police and locals, Sharifa was carrying a bundle of harvested paddy to home from field.

As rain began suddenly, lightning struck her and leaving her critically injured.

Locals rescued her and rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, but she died on the way.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station Saad Ahmed said police had been sent to the scene after receiving the information, reports UNB.
