EU welcomed the interim government's revision of the Bangladesh Labour Act, calling it a crucial step toward stronger labour rights and essential for sustaining Bangladesh's long-term preferential access to the EU market.

The reform carries significant importance as Bangladesh prepares for national elections in early 2026, stressing the need for effective implementation and policy continuity, the EU mission in Dhaka said today,

It added that whichever party or coalition forms the next administration would be expected to swiftly confirm the revision after the polls.

The EU also welcomed Bangladesh's ratification of ILO Conventions 155, 187 and 190, which strengthen commitments to safety, health, and the elimination of workplace violence and harassment, reports BSS.

According to the statement, the developments create positive momentum for EU-Bangladesh relations and reinforce ongoing cooperation on labour rights and governance.
