France today expressed solidarity with the people of Bangladesh as the nation marks one year since the historic student-led mass uprising, acknowledging the events of July and August 2024 as a turning point in the country's democratic journey.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the Embassy of France in Dhaka said: "Today is a remembrance day for the tragic events of July and August 2024. The 5th of August opened a new chapter in the history of Bangladesh."

The French mission underscored Paris's unwavering support for Bangladesh's pursuit of peace, inclusivity, and democracy.

"France stands with the people of Bangladesh in their pursuit of a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic future," the statement read.

The message comes as several international partners, including the United Kingdom and the European Union, also marked the anniversary with tributes to those who lost their lives and voiced continued support for democratic reforms under the current interim administration, reports BSS.
