Adviser urges Singapore to hire skilled BD workers

Shipping and Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr M Shakhawat Hossain today urged the Singapore government to take more experienced manpower from Bangladesh   including shipping sector in Singapore.


The Adviser made this call in a bilateral meeting with Singaporean Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-Charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu at his commerce ministry office in Singapore on Wednesday said a shipping ministry release here today.

The shipping adviser said every year skilled and talented mariners are completing graduation from different public and private marine academies in Bangladesh, adding that these mariners would play important role in the development of Singapore if the Singapore government arrange employment for them in its  shipping sector.

“ At the same time, Bangladesh will get huge foreign currency” the adviser said .
In addition, he said Bangladesh has done significant progress in Ready  Made Garment (RMG) and the RMG of Bangladesh is world class, adding “there is a huge  demand of Bangladeshi apparels across the world including Europe and America”.

Even  jute products of Bangladesh have huge demand across the world, he said, adding that Singapore can import Bangladeshi manufactured high quality apparels and various jute products from Bangladesh.

Mentioning Bangladesh as ‘genuine’ friend of Singapore, the Singaporean  trade  minister said the Singapore government is pledge bound to sign a free trade agreement with Bangladesh aiming to bring trade balance and fulfil the trade deficiency between Bangladesh and Singapore.

Besides, Fu said Singapore also will play important role in developing human resources of Bangladesh.

The  Adviser  said  now Bangladesh has favourable atmosphere of investment in different sector including Shipping industry,  RMG,  drugs, leather related products, ceramic and jute goods.

All the procedure of the foreign investment now is being completed in open and transparent process.

During the meeting, the adviser urged the Singapore government to invest in  construction of an international standard dockyard or shipyard in under construction Matarbari deep sea port in Bangladesh.

The adviser also urged for providing transit or working visa to the Bangladeshi sailors by the Singapore government. He also expects cooperation from the Singapore government for imparting modern and developed training to those who are now being engaged in port management in Bangladesh, reports BSS. 

The high officials of both the countries also attended in the meeting.
