In a statement issued today, the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Israel to halt all military operations, exercise restraint, and adhere to its obligations under international humanitarian law.
“The Government of Bangladesh condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli forces’ indiscriminate aerial bombardment of densely populated civilian areas in Gaza, which appears to be a deliberate attempt at ethnic cleansing against an already vulnerable Palestinian population,” the statement read.
The statement also highlighted the devastating toll of Israel's military actions since last month's breach of the ceasefire agreement. These attacks have killed numerous Palestinians, particularly women and children, while simultaneously obstructing vital humanitarian aid to Gaza, exacerbating what has become a dire human catastrophe.
“Despite repeated international calls for restraint, Israel has disregarded these appeals, continuing its brutal offensive with no regard for the lives of innocent civilians,” the foreign ministry added.
Bangladesh has urged the international community, especially the United Nations, to take immediate and decisive action to implement an unconditional ceasefire. The country also called for the cessation of all hostilities, ensuring the protection of civilian lives and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance to the besieged Gaza Strip.
The Bangladesh government reiterated its unwavering support for the just rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
“Bangladesh remains committed to the pursuit of a peaceful, negotiated solution to the ongoing conflict, which is essential for both regional and global stability,” the statement emphasized.
Furthermore, the government called on all parties involved to engage in diplomacy and dialogue as the only path to ending the violence and suffering that has long afflicted the Palestinian people.
In conclusion, Bangladesh reaffirmed its steadfast position in advocating for a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue, grounded in international law, United Nations resolutions, and the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people for peace, justice, and dignity.
