The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza conflict during a rare visit by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Sunday, according to a statement from the UAE's Foreign Ministry.

The UAE and Israel formalized relations in 2020 through the US-brokered Abraham Accords. However, bilateral contact has been minimal since the Gaza conflict intensified following Hamas' attacks on Israel in October 2023.

During their meeting in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Abdullah and Saar discussed the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the urgent need for a ceasefire. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the importance of working towards a ceasefire and securing the release of hostages. He also underscored the necessity of advancing a serious political path for resuming negotiations aimed at achieving a two-state solution.

While Israel did not provide immediate details about the talks, Saar shared on social media that it was his second meeting with Sheikh Abdullah. "We discussed the full range of regional issues, as well as strengthening bilateral relations between our countries," Saar said. "Despite the challenges ahead in the Middle East, there are partners for a better future of cooperation and stability."
