A delegation from the Bangladesh Ikebana Association (BIA) visited the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Saida Shinichi, at the Embassy of Japan in Dhaka on Sunday.

The delegation was led by BIA founder, Prof. Dr. AKM Moazzem Hussain.

During the meeting, Masud Karim, Life Patron and Honorary CEO of BIA, highlighted the organization’s mission, vision, and its longstanding cultural initiatives in Bangladesh since its founding in 1974. He emphasized the strong bond between Japan and Bangladesh, noting the two nations' shared history of trust and diplomatic ties. In 2022, the Bangladesh Ikebana Association commemorated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"Alongside the practice of Ikebana, we are committed to furthering the cultural ties between Japan and Bangladesh," Karim remarked, expressing hope for continued collaboration in the years to come.

A key highlight of the delegation’s upcoming plans is the BIA Japan Lovers' visit to Japan from May 15 to 26, 2025, led by Masud Karim. During the trip, the delegation will conduct an Ikebana workshop and demonstration in Tokyo on May 18, in partnership with NPO Takashimadaira ACT. This event is supported by prominent Bangladesh enthusiast Yoshinari Katsuo and his team. The delegation will also meet the Mayor of Itabashi City, aiming to foster stronger bilateral ties.

The delegation’s itinerary includes visits to Japan’s historical and cultural landmarks, such as Hiroshima, Nara, and Kyoto, with the aim of deepening their understanding of Japan's heritage and culture.

BIA President Nasrin Mehdi Chowdhury expressed the association’s ongoing desire for cooperation with the Ambassador, particularly in supporting Ikebana-related activities in Bangladesh.

Ambassador Saida Shinichi assured that the Embassy of Japan would continue to offer its full support to the BIA’s initiatives, reinforcing the commitment to further strengthen cultural and diplomatic relations between the two nations.
