United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka tomorrow afternoon for a four-day official visit at the invitation of Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

Guterres will arrive on Emirates flight EK-586 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 5:00 pm, where he will be welcomed by Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain before heading to the InterContinental Hotel.

On Friday, Foreign Affairs Adviser Hossain and Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the High Representative of the Chief Adviser on the Rohingya Issue, will meet with Guterres at 9:00 am. Later, Guterres will meet with Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus at the Chief Adviser’s Office at 10:00 am.

Following these meetings, Guterres will travel to Cox’s Bazar to visit the Rohingya camps. Upon arrival at Cox’s Bazar Airport, he will be received by Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam.

In Cox’s Bazar, Guterres will join Chief Adviser Yunus for an Iftar with around one lakh Rohingyas. The two leaders will interact with Rohingya community leaders and imams during the event. Before the Iftar, Guterres is set to visit several camp facilities, including the Watch Tower, Learning Centre, Multi-purpose Service Centre, and a jute production site, and engage with Rohingya youth and children.

Guterres will return to Dhaka the same evening and stay at the InterContinental Hotel.

On Saturday, Guterres will visit the UN Common Premises in Dhaka, where he will raise the UN flag, observe a photo exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-UN relations, and meet with UN staff. In the afternoon, he will participate in a roundtable discussion on Bangladesh’s reform process and engage with youth and civil society members. Guterres is also expected to address a joint media briefing with Foreign Affairs Adviser Hossain.

Later that evening, Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus will host an Iftar and dinner in Guterres’ honor.

On Sunday, Guterres will depart Dhaka at 9:55 am by Emirates flight, with Dr. Khalilur Rahman attending his departure at the airport.

This visit is expected to highlight Bangladesh's increasing diplomatic prominence and its ongoing challenges, such as the Rohingya crisis, on the global stage.

In a recent letter to Yunus, Guterres expressed his hope that an upcoming high-level conference on Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar will reinvigorate international focus and help develop broader solutions. He also reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to mobilizing international support for Bangladesh and providing humanitarian and livelihood aid to communities in Rakhine.
