Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner has arrived in Israel after talks in Egypt about the US-backed Gaza peace plan. A Palestinian official said Kushner met a delegation led by Hamas's new leader Khalil al-Hayya.
It's believed to be the first meeting at this level since last year's Gaza ceasefire agreement. However, no official statement has been released of the talks, which reportedly focused on decommissioning Hamas's weapons, as well as the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Strip.
Kushner is now expected to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who last week rejected Trump's 15-point plan for Gaza. Netanyahu, who faces a tough October election, is under pressure from his own cabinet to continue operations in Gaza. – BBC Briefing
