Bangladesh Seeks More Japanese Investment, Skilled Jobs for Workers

Bangladesh has welcomed increased Japanese investment and deeper economic cooperation while seeking expanded employment opportunities in Japan for skilled Bangladeshi workers.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam made the remarks when Japanese Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Namazu Hiroyuki paid a courtesy call on her at State Guest House Padma on Wednesday.

Shama Obaed highlighted Japan’s long-standing contribution to Bangladesh’s development and appreciated its continued support through the BIG-B Initiative and the Official Security Assistance programme.

She also expressed hope that Japan would create greater opportunities for skilled Bangladeshi workers as economic ties between the two countries expand.

Namazu Hiroyuki is on a two-day official visit to Dhaka and attended the seventh Bangladesh-Japan Foreign Office Consultations (FOC).

He expressed appreciation for Bangladesh’s warm hospitality and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding ties with Bangladesh, recognising the country as an important partner in South Asia.

Shama Obaed welcomed the visiting Japanese senior deputy minister and expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the foreign office consultations.

Recalling the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and Japan, she reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to further advancing the two countries’ Strategic Partnership.

Both sides expressed confidence that the Strategic Partnership would continue to deepen and expand in the coming years.

Following the courtesy meeting, Shama Obaed hosted a dinner in honour of the visiting Japanese delegation.
