Bangladesh, India reaffirm cross-border energy ties
Bangladesh and India on Thursday reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing cooperation based on mutual interest and mutual benefit.
The two countries discussed ways to enhance energy security, promote sustainable development, and support the prosperity of the people of both countries.
The issues were discussed when Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood at the Secretariat.
They exchanged views on further strengthening Bangladesh-India cooperation in the power and energy sectors, said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
State Minister Anindya Islam Amit also present during the meeting.
The discussion focused on the importance of cross-border power and energy connectivity as a key pillar of Bangladesh-India economic partnership.
Bangladesh and India continue to enjoy the largest trading relationships in South Asia.
Bilateral merchandise trade reached approximately US$11.39 billion in FY2024–25, with Bangladesh exporting goods worth US$1.76 billion to India and importing US$9.62 billion, according to the International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh, reports UNB.
