A union-level BNP leader in Dhaka’s Keraniganj upazila, who was shot by miscreants on Thursday night, died at a hospital on Saturday afternoon.

Hasan Molla, general secretary of Hazratpur union BNP, succumbed to his injuries at around 4pm while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said M Saiful Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station.

The OC said the process of filing a murder case is underway.

Hasan was shot by unidentified assailants in Jagannathpur village on Thursday night.

Rakib Hossain, younger brother of the injured BNP leader, said miscreants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire in front of the house of the Hero Chairman of Ward No. 7 before fleeing.

The bullets hit Hasan Mollah on the right side of his abdomen, he added.

He was initially taken to Square Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where he underwent two surgeries before succumbing to his injuries, reports UNB.
