Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon on Monday said the government will adopt a zero-tolerance policy against any unethical obstruction to the activities of mainstream media.

“No one will be subjected to any form of harassment through false cases without specific crime or allegation,” he said, claiming that the media is operating independently and without control under the current government.

The minister made the remarks, while exchanging Eid-ul-Azha greetings with journalists at the Secretariat.

Responding to a question about the recent attack on journalists while they were gathering news at a city hospital, he said the role of the media is to present information transparently before the people and that it is the responsibility of both the state and society to support that work.

Swapon stressed the importance of ensuring the professional safety and security of journalists and assured that the government will take necessary measures after looking into the incident, reports UNB.
