A woman was allegedly strangled to death by her drug-addicted husband in Ashulia, Savar, police said, with the accused now on the run.

The incident occurred late Thursday night at their home in Gokulnagar area.

The victim, identified as Meherun Akter Borsha (23), had married her husband, Joni Mia, seven months ago in a family-arranged ceremony, according to her father, Omar Ali.

Omar Ali said that after their marriage, Joni Mia became addicted to drugs, which frequently led to quarrels between the couple. During a heated argument on Thursday night, he allegedly strangled his wife.

Borsha was taken to Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar, where doctors declared her dead-on arrival, stating she had passed away earlier.

Savar Model Police recovered the body from the hospital and sent it to the morgue, reports UNB.

Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Hannan confirmed that a case has been filed and said the suspect would be arrested soon and brought to justice.
