CU student with slit tendons found dead

A student of Chittagong University (CU) was found dead with tendons of his legs and wrist cut at Chattogram port city on Sunday.


The deceased was identified as Shamim Masud Khan Joy, 26, a Masters student of Computer Engineering Department of the university.

Manirul Karim, sub-inspector of Port Police Station, said local people found Shamim with the tendons of his legs and wrist cut on Outer ring Road, adjacent to the Sunset Point Beach Resort and informed police.

Later, he was taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Quoting family members police said Shamim used to live with his parents at Boropol area in the city and he came out of his house at noon after receiving a phone call.

Besides, an witnesses, wishing anonymity, said Shamim himself cut the tendons of his legs and wrist.

Police said they are investigating whether it was a case of suicide or murder.

Mahmudul Hasan, assistant commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Port zone, said the body was kept at the Chattogram Medical College and Hospital morgue. “The actual reason behind the death could be known after investigation.”
