Police recovered the hanging body of an elderly man with his hands tied behind his back beside a one-storey house in the Koykirttan area of Sreenagar upazila on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Rafiq Sheikh, 60, a resident of the upazila. According to family members and police, Rafiq worked as a caretaker for his neighbor, Rana Sheikh’s house.

Around 2 am, he told his elder daughter that the presence of unknown people near the house had increased recently. After that, he went out. When he did not return by 4 am, his daughter began searching for him and found him hanging from a tree with his hands tied behind his back.

Hearing her screams, locals and family members rushed to the scene and cut the rope, hoping he was still alive. However, he had already died.

His family alleged that Rafiq was murdered and that his body was hung to make it appear as a suicide.

On information, police recovered the body.

Md Anisur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sreenagar Circle) said that no injury marks were found on the body during the initial inspection, reports UNB.

The body was sent to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
