Chuadanga, Mar 18 – A 40-year-old man has been arrested in a Chuadanga village following allegations of attempting to rape his 14-year-old daughter.

Officer-in-Charge of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station Khaledur Rahman  said police arrested Enamul Haque, a security guard, following a  public outrage.

Upon learning of the incident, locals staged a protest outside the accused's residence, leading to heightened tensions in the area.

Police intervened on Monday evening to restore order.

According to the police, the accused fled to his uncle's house in Pukuria village, Kaliganj upazila, Jhenaidah, after the incident.

He was subsequently held during a raid conducted by the Chuadanga District Detective Branch of Police later that night.

The victim, a madrasah student, had reportedly been subjected to unwanted advances by her father for some time.

Police investigations revealed that on December 1, Enamul attempted to rape her while his wife was away.

The girl resisted and initially shared with a friend.

On March 14, suffering from severe emotional distress, she ingested six Napa Extra tablets.

After being hospitalised, she disclosed her father's attempted rape to her family.

While the family initially attempted to conceal the incident, it became public on Monday evening, prompting a two-hour protest by local residents.

“Primary investigations have confirmed evidence of the attempted rape. The accused is now in custody, and legal proceedings are underway. A press briefing will be held tomorrow morning,” said OC Khaledur. - UNB
