Police recovered the body of a Dhaka University student from a female hostel on Elephant Road early Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Anika Meherunnesa Sahi, a student from the Department of Management at Dhaka University. Originally from Joypurhat, Sahi was found hanging in her room at the Moksud Tower student hostel.

Biraj Mistry, a Sub-Inspector at New Market Police Station, confirmed the discovery, stating that Sahi was found dead in her room. She was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival around 2 a.m.

Mohsin Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of New Market Police Station, revealed that Sahi had been staying at the hostel with several other students. While the exact cause of death remains unclear, the OC suggested that it may have been linked to a personal relationship.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding her death. The body has been sent to the DMCH morgue for an autopsy.
