Just five days after a robbery on a Dhaka-Rajshahi night coach in Natore, another robbery occurred on Saturday night in Naogaon, targeting a BRTC bus and a microbus in Patnitala upazila. The incident, which occurred on the Nazipur-Sapahar regional road, led to road blockage but, as of more than 12 hours later, no arrests have been made.

Ratan Kumar Saha, supervisor of the BRTC bus, explained that their vehicle departed Rajshahi station around 8:45 p.m. heading toward Niamatpur upazila. Around 11:45 p.m., the bus slowed down and stopped after spotting logs on the road between Manashi and Karamjhai areas. The microbus traveling behind also stopped due to the blockade.

The robbers, wearing masks, smashed the bus windows and stormed in, stealing cash, seven to eight mobile phones, and jewelry from the passengers. The total value of the stolen goods was estimated at around Tk 3 lakh. The robbers also attacked the microbus, snatching valuables from the driver.

Patnitala police station’s officer-in-charge, Enayetur Rahman, stated that action would be taken if a formal complaint was filed.

This incident follows another robbery on Monday night, where robbers hijacked a Dhaka-Rajshahi bus of Unique Road Royals’ “Amri Travels” and held passengers hostage for nearly three hours. Female passengers reported harassment during this robbery.

In response to the Natore robbery, Baraigram Police Station’s officer-in-charge, Sirajul Islam, was dismissed and reassigned to the police lines for his alleged negligence in handling the previous robbery and harassment of two female passengers.
