Narsingdi, Aug 7 - A young man was shot to death after being abducted by a group of armed miscreants in Alokbali, a remote char area of Narsingdi Sadar upazila, on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Sumon Mia, 23, son of Baten Mia of Bakhon Nagar village. He was the nephew of Qaiyum Mia, former president of Alokbali union unit of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal.

According to family members, Sumon and his sister Sonia were standing on the bank of a river near their home around 8:00pm when a group of 10-15 armed men allegedly forced him away at gunpoint.

The assailants then took him to Bakhonnagar Bazar, where they shot him in front of a tea stall, the family said.

Sumon was rescued in critical condition and taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead

Sonia said her brother was preparing to go abroad within the next few days. She said his wife is pregnant and claimed he had no political affiliation or personal enmity.

She alleged that several local men, including Habi, Mitul, Mainuddin and Kala, were involved in the killing.

Officer-in-Charge of Narsingdi Model Police Station MR Al Mamun said the incident appeared to have stemmed from a local dispute.

They are investigating the case and action will be taken based on the findings, he said. - UNB
