The Detective Branch (DB) of district police arrested top-listed criminal and alleged arms trader Md. Kamrul Islam, alias 'Khora Kamrul', 47, from a rented house in the town's Missionpara area on Saturday evening.

Preliminary police investigations identify Kamrul, a resident of Kholadanga, as a long-time key supplier of illegal firearms and explosives in Jashore and its surrounding areas.

According to DB Sub-Inspector Md. Salauddin Khan, the raid stems from an April 6 arms case. Two previously arrested suspects, Khalidur Rahman Titu and Sheikh Moinuddin Ferdous, gave confessional court statements directly implicating Kamrul in the supply of a seized foreign 7.65 mm pistol, a magazine and ammunition.

Kamrul currently faces 20 criminal cases, including seven for extortion, six for arms offenses, four involving explosives and others for murder, drug offenses and violations under the Special Powers Act.

Following the completion of legal formalities, he was produced before a court today for further legal action, reports BSS.
