3 suffer burn injuries in Demra steel mill blast

Three workers of a steel mill suffered burn injuries in an explosion at Baserpool in the Demra area of the capital on Sunday.


The injured were identified as Sabbir Hossain, 24, Tofazzal Hossain, 48, and Mazed Hossain, 52.

Witnesses said the explosion occurred at the Zahir Steel and Re-rolling Mills while workers were melting iron in the morning, leaving the trio injured.

Later, they were taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the institute, said among the injured, Sabbir suffered burns on 35 percent of his body, while Tofazzel 23 percent. They were shifted to Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, reports UNB.

Meanwhile, Mazed, who suffered 1 percent burn, was given treatment at the emergency department of the institute, he said.
