Security has been significantly reinforced at all eight airports across Bangladesh following a warning from Police Headquarters about a possible militant threat targeting key national installations.
The heightened alert includes Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, along with other major airports in the country. Aviation authorities said additional screening measures, increased patrols, and closer coordination among security agencies have been put in place as part of precautionary steps.
Officials confirmed that airports were already operating under standard security protocols, but the latest advisory prompted a move to the highest level of alert. Measures include stricter passenger checks, enhanced surveillance, and deployment of extra security personnel in sensitive zones.
The warning, issued last Thursday by Bangladesh Police Headquarters, indicated that members of a banned extremist group could be planning attacks on important state institutions, including the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. While no specific organisation was named, authorities said intelligence inputs suggested credible risks that warranted immediate action.
The advisory also mentioned the recent arrest of a suspected militant identified as Ishtiaq Ahmed Sami, also known by aliases Abu Bakr and Abu Mohammad. Investigators are examining possible links and any broader network that may pose a threat.
Aviation officials described the move as part of routine security preparedness, noting that such alerts are handled with urgency to prevent any potential disruption. Law enforcement agencies remain on high alert, and security arrangements at other critical infrastructure across the country are also being reviewed.
Passengers have been advised to allow extra time for airport procedures as the enhanced measures remain in place until further notice.
