The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to launch the Women's Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL) T20 for the first time in the country.

The Women's Wing of BCB has already announced that the inaugural edition of the tournament will run from April 3-15.

The WBPL will mark Bangladesh's first-ever franchise-based Twenty20 competition for women, representing a pioneering step forward in the professional development of women's cricket in the country.

The opening edition will feature three franchise teams, bringing together leading national cricketers alongside emerging talents. Local players will be selected through a player draft system to ensure competitive balance, squad strength and depth across all teams.

Franchises will also be permitted to sign overseas professional players, providing an opportunity for international participation, global exposure and enhancement of the tournament's competitive standard.

The WBPL Governing Council will be chaired by Rubaba Dowla, BCB Director and Chairperson of the BCB Women's Wing.

The Council will oversee all organisational matters relating to the tournament, reports BSS.
