BCB Director Calls Tamim Iqbal an “Indian Agent”
Former national cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal has been called an “Indian agent” by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and chairman of the finance committee, M. Nazmul Islam.
He made the remark in a status posted on his personal Facebook page on Thursday, although the post is no longer available on Nazmul’s Facebook.
Earlier on Thursday, Tamim spoke on several issues related to the situation surrounding Bangladesh’s participation in the World Cup while attending the trophy and jersey unveiling ceremony of the Zia Inter-University Cricket Tournament at the City Club. One part of his statement was:
“About 90–99 percent of our revenue comes from the ICC. So decisions have to be made after considering everything.”
Sharing a photo card containing this statement along with Tamim’s picture, Nazmul referred to him as an Indian agent. In the status, he wrote:
“This time, the people of Bengal have witnessed the emergence of yet another proven Indian agent with their own eyes.”
Although he later deleted the post, screenshots of the status have spread on social media, sparking discussion and criticism. Some people are supporting his comment, while others are opposing it.
After India excluded Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL, the BCB has said it does not want to send the team to play the World Cup there, citing security concerns. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has informed the ICC about the matter. This issue has kept the country’s cricket scene heated for several days. Tamim’s appeal is that instead of making noise publicly, the board should reach a final internal decision and then present it openly to everyone.
