Bijoy Fails Again, Just 23 Runs in Four Innings

Although Anamul Haque Bijoy was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the Colombo Test, he began the second innings with an aggressive mindset. However, he still couldn’t make an impact. The fifth ball of the seventh over, bowled by Asitha Fernando, was a short-length delivery. Bijoy tried to pull but failed to connect properly and gave a catch at short leg. His innings ended with 19 runs off 19 balls.

Earlier, in the Galle Test, he had scored 0 in the first innings and 4 in the second. So across four innings of the two-match Test series, Bijoy has managed only 23 runs.

Following Bijoy's dismissal, Bangladesh went into the tea break with 31 runs on the board in 6.5 overs. Shadman Islam remained unbeaten on 12 off 22 balls. After the tea break, Mominul Haque joined him at the crease. The Tigers are still trailing by 180 runs. Their challenge now is to erase this deficit and set a target for the hosts.

Bangladesh began their second innings 211 runs behind. In reply to Bangladesh’s 247 in the first innings, Sri Lanka posted 458. Pathum Nissanka scored the highest for the Lankans with 158 runs, followed by Dinesh Chandimal with 93 and Kusal Mendis with 84.

For Bangladesh, Taijul Islam took the highest 5 wickets, while Nayeem Hasan claimed 3. Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat, Bangladesh were bowled out for under 250. No batter managed to score a fifty; the highest was Shadman Islam with 46. Asitha Fernando and Sonal Dinusha each took 3 wickets for Sri Lanka.
