Dhaka, 9 April - Opener Parvez Hossain Emon continued his red-hot form in Dhaka Premier League (DPL) as Abahani Limited bolstered its top spot
in the points table, having crushed mighty Prime Bank Cricket Club by 133
runs at BKSP-4 ground today.
Emon followed his 124 and record-breaking 61 not out with 71 ball-79 in this
match to guide Abahani to a respectable 290-9 after opting to bat first.
Later, the bowlers bowled well in tandem to help the side bundle Prime Bank
out for just 157 in 32 overs for a gigantic victory.
Prime Bank pacer Hasan Mahmud finished with 4-38 and posed a significant
threat but Emon dominated him in style to give the side a strong platform of
a big total. He smote six fours and five sixes in his knock.
Nayeem Ahmed who picked up three wickets to complement Hasan Mahmud removed
Emon as he approached to a century.
Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto then took the onus to drive the side to the
safety by playing 58 off 70, an innings laced with four fours and three
sixes.
Mosaddek Hossain Saikat with 37 was another notable contributor for Abahani.
Saikat also took three wickets for 29 runs in seven overs to slice Prime
Bank's top order. Amidst the other batters' failure, opener Naim Sheikh
continued his rich vein of form by playing 74 ball-73, hitting nine fours and
one six.
Shamim Patwari also stood up with typically aggressive 26 ball-40 but that
was not enough to pose any threat to Abahani, largely due to the other
batters failure. Apart from Naim and Patwari, only two other batters of Prime
Bank could reach double digits, a testament of how vulnerable the other
batters were.
While defending champions Abahani continued to be at top spot, Prime Bank's
aspiration to move to the Super Six derailed further as they were downed to
seventh position after this defeat. They have, so far, secured five wins in
10 matches while Abahani lost only one game after playing same number of
matches.
Meanwhile, Gulshan Cricket Club moved to third spot after beating Shinepukur
Cricket Club by five runs in a thrilling contest at Sher-e-Bangla National
Cricket Stadium today.
Gulshan were bowled out for just 178 runs but defended the total by wrapping
Shinepukur up for 173 in 43 overs, thanks to three wickets apiece from Nihad
Uz Zaman and captain Azizul Hakim Tamim.
It was Gulshan sixth victory in 10th game while Shinepukur continued to
languish at bottom table after registering just one victory in the same
number of matches. BSS
