Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal shared his first public message on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack during a domestic match, expressing deep gratitude to well-wishers, medical professionals, and the Almighty for his recovery.
In a heartfelt post on his official Facebook page, Tamim reflected on the fragility of life, acknowledging how unexpected events can change everything. "Yesterday, when I started the day, did I know what was about to happen to me? No," he wrote. "By the mercy of Allah and everyone’s prayers, I have come back."
Tamim also recalled a memory from two years ago during Ramadan when he met a friend, Anup, whose father couldn’t undergo heart surgery for four years. That moment, he said, resurfaced sharply in light of his own experience. "The rhythm of the heart is what keeps us alive. Yet we often forget that it can stop without any warning," Tamim added.
The heart attack occurred on Monday during a Dhaka Premier League match at BKSP, where Tamim was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club. Initially suspected to be gastric pain, his condition worsened, and he was rushed to KPJ Specialized Hospital in Gazipur. Doctors discovered a blockage in his heart, and he underwent angioplasty with a stent placement. Tamim's condition is now stable, though he remains under 72-hour observation.
Tamim thanked the "extraordinary people" whose quick actions and dedication helped him through the crisis. He urged everyone to support each other during difficult times and reminded people of the unpredictable nature of life.
“Without your love, I am nothing,” he concluded, requesting prayers for himself and his family.
