Dhaka, May 27 – A Dhaka court on Tuesday imposed travel ban on five people including former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku and his two sons—SM Asif Shams and SM Nafis Shams over graft charges.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order after hearing two separate petitions.
The court also ordered blocking of their National Identity Cards.
The other accused were identified as former Director General of Registration Directorate under Law Ministry, Khan Md Abdul Mannan and his wife Shakila Begum.
Deputy Director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Al Amin, filed a petition seeking travel ban and blocking NIDs of former deputy speaker Tuku and his two sons.
According to the petition, an investigation is underway against Tuku over allegations of using political influence to engage in economic crimes and amass a large amount of movable and immovable assets.
He is now in jail facing different cases.
Besides, assistant director of ACC Shahidur Rahman filed another petition seeking a travel ban on the Mannan's family.
According to the petition, allegations of amassing wealth of several thousand crore was found against Mannan through irregularities in recruitment process, transfer process and selling of certificates to deed writers. - UNB
