Ex-BB Deputy Governor SK Sur Jailed for Three Years

A Dhaka court on Monday sentenced former Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Shitangshu Kumar (SK) Sur Chowdhury to three years in prison in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for failing to submit his asset statement.

Judge Ayesha Nasrin of Dhaka Special Judge Court-2 delivered the verdict, ACC lawyer SM Abul Kalam Azad said.

Sur was present in court when the judgment was announced. Following the verdict, the court issued a conviction warrant and ordered that he be sent back to prison to serve his sentence.

The ACC filed the case on 23 December 2024 after Sur failed to comply with a notice requiring him to submit a detailed statement of his assets, liabilities, sources of income and all movable and immovable properties owned by him or his dependants within 21 working days.

According to the case documents, the notice was issued following allegations that he had accumulated assets beyond his known sources of income.

ACC Deputy Director Nazmul Hossain filed the case under Section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.

Deputy Director Md Ahsan Uddin submitted the charge sheet on 4 August 2025.

The court framed charges against Sur on 6 November 2025, formally opening the trial.

During the trial, all seven prosecution witnesses testified before the court.

The ACC arrested Sur in Dhaka's Segunbagicha area on 14 January 2025. He has remained in custody since then.
