US President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned of devastating consequences for Iran if it fails to comply with Washington’s demands before his ultimatum expires.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran faced catastrophic destruction, writing that “a whole civilization will die” if the crisis continues unchecked.

Although he did not provide specific details in the latest post, Trump has previously threatened to target Iran’s bridges, power plants and other key infrastructure if Tehran does not back down.

The ultimatum is tied to Iran’s effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route through which a large share of the world’s oil and other commodities passes.

Trump has set a deadline of midnight GMT Tuesday for Iran to reopen the strategic waterway and meet US demands.

On Monday, he said a temporary ceasefire proposal under discussion was not enough, signalling that Washington was seeking a broader outcome.

Iran has rejected the pressure, with state media reporting that Tehran wants a permanent end to the war, rather than a short-term truce.

Despite the escalating rhetoric, Trump suggested there was still a slim possibility of a last-minute breakthrough.

In his social media post, he said the situation could still change if “different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail.”

The tensions come amid continued military escalation in the region. US and Israeli strikes on Iran have continued since late February, while Iranian authorities said on Tuesday that the country’s key oil export terminal on Kharg Island had come under attack.

The latest developments have intensified fears of a wider regional conflict, with growing concern over the potential impact on global energy markets and civilian infrastructure.
