BB gives banks 2 months to settle staff disciplinary cases
Bangladesh Bank (BB) has directed all scheduled banks to complete disciplinary proceedings against their officials and employees within a maximum of two months, aiming to prevent unresolved cases from obstructing staff mobility between banks.
The directive was issued today, replacing Paragraph 02(B) of BRPD Circular Letter No. 06 dated May 4, 2005, which governs the recruitment of bank officials and employees.
Under the revised instruction, if a disciplinary case is pending against an employee, the concerned bank must resolve it within two months in accordance with its service rules.
The central bank said the move is intended to stop the practice of keeping disciplinary cases pending indefinitely, which has often delayed the issuance of release letters or experience certificates and hindered employees from joining other banks.
Bangladesh Bank said the amendment aligns banking sector practices with the Bangladesh Labour Rules, 2015, while ensuring greater transparency and legal certainty in disciplinary procedures.
The circular was issued under Section 45 of the Bank Company Act, 1991. All other provisions of the original 2005 circular remain unchanged.
The new instruction takes immediate effect and is applicable to all scheduled banks operating in Bangladesh, reports BSS.
